In an ideal world, we would all be free to work for ourselves or for those people who exactly share our code of morals, ethics, and sense of honesty. Unfortunately, this is usually not the case, and there may come a time when you as an employee, whether you've worked your way to management or not, have to make some difficult decisions as it comes to your ethical boundaries. After all, nothing can get in the way of a clear conscience like the prospect of losing your job, or being passed over for that next big promotion. On the other hand, there are the practical considerations. If your boss gets caught doing something underhanded or even illegal, who's going to get thrown under the bus? All things to think about when, within the world of business, you're forced to make a choice between being true to yourself and loyalty to the boss.

It certainly doesn't have to come down to something illegal, or even clearly underhanded. Many of the most difficult decisions in this arena comes from something as simple as differing points of view. Take this example, for instance. Your boss decides that, as manager of the district office, it is perfectly fine, and incumbent upon you, to read all employee interoffice email. It is quite likely that, within the frame of the law, your boss has every right to ask this of you, and every right to do this to his employees.

However, the privacy issue and how you personally feel about invading it, is quite another matter. You may have no leg to stand on from a perfectly legal standpoint, but this doesn't mean you should keep quiet, right? It all depends, of course. And this is what business ethics is all about; choices, and various shades of gray. Your family may not understand why rent cannot be paid simply because you didn't want to look through Susan and Bob's inboxes. Then again, maybe they will understand.

There is another consideration to make. Standing up for one's beliefs can look terrific on a resume. Getting fired for slacking off or trading insider stock reports will make it difficult to find future employment. But getting the boot because you refused to budge on an issue of ethical meaning?

That's quite another matter entirely. If this happens to you, be not ashamed of bringing it up in your cover letters to prospective employers. Most will applaud your courage, and it's entirely possible the next job will be better than the last.

Ethics is business will always be a shady area, and it's an area you will need to make your place in to become comfortable in the business world. Test your own boundaries and make up your mind ahead of time what you will and won't stand for. That way, when the time comes, you won't have to hesitate to make the right decision for your family, your career, and most importantly, yourself.

It is easy to see at this point why drip-shipping business is one of the easiest methods of making money online today. You set the price that the customer pays, and the drop shipper sets the wholesale price that you pay, it is that simple. Either way you come out with profit. Have you ever noticed how visible large corporations are? Take Coca-Cola®, Nike® and McDonalds®. They are everywhere. Just ask anyone what comes to mind when he/she hears the words soft drink, running shoes or quick burgers. More often than not, you'll hear these brand names immediately.
We've been exposed to these companies so much that it's natural to think of them immediately. We recognize them as experts in their specific industries.

What's the lesson here? Visibility.

As a small business owner, you MUST be visible. If your business isn’t visible to potential clients and customers, then you might as well close the doors.

Visibility is proactively marketing your business in order to effectively attract new customers. Sure, you may have a somewhat consistent client base, but resting on your laurels or just relying on your current client base as your only source of revenue carries an incredibly high risk, one that has been the detriment to countless small businesses.

Visibility is one of the MOST crucial determining factors in the success of your small business. People can't do business with you if they don't know you exist.

How can you proactively be visible?

First, remember you are the number one asset of your small business. More than just getting your name out there, you have to get your face out there in the marketplace. Prospects can turn up in some of the unlikeliest places and when they do, it's your face they need to see in order to consider doing business with you.

For example, take Donald Trump. Whether you admire him or despise him, he's everywhere. A few years ago, who would have thought that he would be hosting one of the most acclaimed network series on television? Who would have thought that he would have a brand new bestselling book? Even while experiencing financial uncertainty in his primary business enterprise, Trump is still going strong. Why? Visibility?
I hear you say, "But, I'm just a small business...I don't have the same endless budgets to be as visible as all those corporate types." As a small business owner, you don't have to have a big budget to be visible.

The secret to small business visibility lies in tapping into the solid gold value of networking. Networking is the high performance vehicle by which small business owners can drive their exposure towards a successful finish.
But the caveat is...it's up to you to take advantage of the opportunities that you do have for networking and to also create your own new opportunities.

Networking is all about people. It gives you the chance to meet new people, make new contacts, exchange ideas and interact with others. This can seem particularly challenging for small business owners who run their businesses from home. Even the smallest of towns has a local chamber group. Membership fees are typically based upon the annual revenue or number of employees of a business.

If you are a brand new business with limited funds, consider opting for an individual membership at a minimal fee. This will still give you the opportunity to participate in chamber events and meet other people in the business community. It will also give you the opportunity to determine whether your area chamber offers the networking opportunities for which you are looking.

Professional/Industry-Related Associations:

Do you belong to a group or organization relevant to your area of expertise? If so, when was the last time you attended one of its meetings or functions? Do you even know what it's doing these days?

Sure, you may be a member of such a group, but are you an active member? Simply paying your annual dues and not participating is not only a waste of money, but also a waste of a valuable networking and visibility opportunity.
I hear you say, "I don't have time. That's like consorting with the enemy. They're my competition." Rest assured that the time you don't take to make the most of this opportunity to network is time that your competition is taking to maximize its networking opportunities.

Look at it this way. What potential value can you offer one of your competitors that might result in a mutually beneficial situation? How can you benefit from working together? One of your competitors may be able to provide you with a solution to a problem while you can offer a solution to one of his/her problems.

Unless you network, you'll never know. It would be a shame to miss such a valuable opportunity simply because you decide that you don't have time or don't want to face the competition.

The Internet:

Whether you run your business from a small town or even from home in an isolated rural area, the Internet has made networking a worldwide possibility. If you don't have a business web site, then you are missing your absolute best potential for visibility.

Maximize your marketing potential by investing in a business web site. The exposure it generates for you will produce a valuable return of your investment.

However, it is vital that your web site presents your business in a professional light.

If you design your web site yourself, but are not a professional designer...if you scrimp and try to develop a site on the cheap...and if your expertise is not in knowing what content to include in a web site to attract clients...you are presenting yourself to potential clients and customers as an amateur or fly-by-night operation.

This is the LAST thing that you want. Sure, you'd be visible—in a VERY bad way.

In addition to having your own web site, the Internet offers other opportunities for increasing your visibility through networking. Search for professional and/or industry-related web sites in your area of expertise. Post comments or suggestions on industry-related discussion groups or blogs.

Dig a little and you will find valuable resources such as industry-specific forums that offer countless networking opportunities.

Remember, if people don't know you exist, they can't consider doing business with you. Although this sounds like simple common sense, I regularly see small business owners who have no concept of the visibility factor.

You MUST be visible.

When it comes to being visible, they mistakenly think that they "don't have time", "can't make time", "can't afford the investment", "can just hide in their offices and expect the phone to ring" or any other flimsy excuses that gets them nowhere.

The time to drop that rock is now and increase your visibility.

How to Find a Job Online

As a notorious online job hunter, I have honed this skill down to an art. I find no reason to waste your time driving around searching for jobs and looking through newspapers. All the information you need is one click away on the internet. Just make sure you don’t waste your time looking in the wrong place because you can spend hours online with no real luck.

First of all, what exactly are you looking for? You want to narrow this down to a few areas such as administrative, education, management, etc. These are just examples, and you can really pick any field you want. Next, what area of the country are you looking to find a job? Are you willing to travel? How far? You don’t want to be looking for jobs that are in California if you live in Massachusetts and have no plan of moving.

Start with the large search engines. You do not have to post a resume unless there is a specific job you want to apply to. Click on search jobs and put a couple of the fields you are interested in. Narrow down the region you want to search and start looking. A lot of times, large search engines like Monster and Careerbuilder will all have the same jobs, but feel free to look around. Another awesome resource that can be more reader friendly is craigslist. Craigslist has pretty much every area of the United States and tons of information for careers and various other odds and ends.

So what is my MLM doing for me?

When I decided to give online MLM a try I had 3 main reasons:

To work from home

To have more free time

To break free from the income = outgoing situation

So, how's it going I hear you ask? In my last blog I said that we aren't millionaires yet which is true and in fact I haven't yet replaced all my earned income.

However, I do now work from home in my own time and I can't tell you how great it is to be able to do that. I can walk my own dog instead of having to pay a dog walker and when I have had enough I can just switch my computer off and go do something else.

This weekend is a great example. When I had a job I would rush round Saturday morning to get the washing and housework done. Then I would take my dog out for a quick walk before sitting down to marking assignments/preparing teaching sessions/completing paperwork/writing detailed feedback/grading work etc etc etc....

In order to keep up with the expectations of my job as a lecturer most of my weekend would be spent on work.

Now Friday night is the official start of our family weekend. No work, just quality time spent with my kids, my husband and even our dog who gets longer walks and more sticks thrown for her!

So you see, at the end of the day it is not the product or the commission plan that is the most important thing in MLM. Rather it is the freedom it gives you to work from home in your own time. Many of our expenses have gone simply by me being around more - no more paying childminders to pick my kids up from school, no more paying the dog walker etc

Plus having more time has allowed me to develop more in many areas of my life. Before my life was so crowded with deadlines/targets/meetings etc that I had no time to read and had, in fact, began to mentally stagnate.

Now I have had chance to read great books like Rich Dad Poor Dad and One Minute Millionaire. I have actually invested some of our saving and bought stocks and shares for the first time.

It is still very esaly days for us in our MLM (we have only been actively building our business since January this year) but already it has given me freedom to leave my job. More importantly it has given me the space to think and grow as a person once more. I am now learning about investments and making my money grow so that me and my family will never be dependent on income from jobs again in the future.

This opportunity is there for anyone and I will gladly help anybody who wants to join us on the same path. Think what you could do with your life if all your time and energy did not have to be spent on your job - what would you rather be doing instead?
